Pittore e disegnatore fiammingo, nasce nel 1523 a Bruges, nelle Fiandre, muore a Firenze l’11 febbraio 1605. La sua formazione artistica inizia nella bottega del padre, dal 1537 prosegue ad Anversa, presso il pittore Pieter Aertsen. Nel 1545 si iscrive alla Corporazione di San Luca, che accomunava i pittori di Anversa; appartengono a questo periodo, tra il 1550 e il 1553, i disegni per tappezzerie. Dal 1550 inizia a viaggiare in Europa: prima a Lione, dove opera presso C. De La Haye, poi in Italia, inizialmente a Venezia, dal 1545 a Firenze. E’ in Italia che muta il suo nome, italianizzandolo in Stradano. Trovò employment with the Grand Duke Cosimo I, working within the circle of Giorgio Vasari, working with this for decorating various rooms in the Palazzo Vecchio. As a result of this collaboration, we witnessed the spread of the ways of the Nordic tradition in Florentine Mannerism. He participated in the decoration of the studio of Francesco I in Palazzo Vecchio, with two panels, one of which is the famous "school of 'alchemy'. In the same palace took part in the decoration of several rooms in the apartments above Eleonora of Toledo, is certainly worth mentioning the Hall of Gualdrada. To remember are his altarpieces commissioned for several churches in Florence and the many drawings that were used to make some recordings that were widely disseminated. After these experiences, he went to Rome, where he worked with Francesco Salviati in the decoration of the Vatican Belvedere. Back in Florence drew cartoons for tapestries for many Palazzo Vecchio and the villa of Poggio a Caiano, from 1567 to 1577. In total it is estimated that more than 130 drawing cartoons for tapestries. In 1576 he made a trip to Naples.
